🟢GIANTS IN THE CLASSROOM🟢 In Ms. Goodrich's 5th grade science lesson, students explored how incredibly salty the ocean is, even though we can't see the salt. In the activity, Tiny Ocean, students created a model ocean to observe how salt seems to completely vanish when dissolved in water. Students then measured and graphed quantities of the water and salt to provide evidence that, even though we can’t see it, the salt still weighs the same amount. Students also created a model salt flat, allowing the water to evaporate, leaving the salt behind. #TheSAGSway

SAGS hosted its annual Share the Love Coin War in April! The recipient of this year's collection is the Kankakee Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This organization's sole purpose is to build and deliver beds to kids that are in need of one! Our school raised $800 for the cause! Kindergarten was the class that raised the most and they won an pizza, pop and movie party! #TheSAGSway

Our May DEAR Event will take place Wednesday, May 7th. This Event will be called “Reading. . . a vacation for the mind!” Students and staff will stop everything and spend time OUTSIDE reading on this day. Your child may wear a hat to shade their eyes from the sun during their DEAR time. They may also bring a beach towel to sit on while reading. Encourage your child to participate to help us celebrate a love for reading!

Congratulations to the newly induced members of National Junior Honor Society. Evelyn Gonzalez, Zander Kirkland, Gavin Michels, Samuel Moore, and Abby Fretes-Perez. Those students met the requirement for membership by showing service to others, being a leader at school, demonstrating good character in all situations, being a good citizen, and maintaining their academics. The current 8th grade members were brave and did an amazing job reading the parts of the ceremony. They have been serving our community this school year in various ways. The NJHS students help with the little free library in front of SAGS. They also served meals at fortitude community outreach. Congratulations to Ty Brammer, Liam Goodrich, Kylie Johnson, Raleigh Hays, Tatum Kirkland, Alayna Krzeckowski, Cody Lamie, and Leah Lobaugh. Keep up the amazing work as you move into high school.

🟢GIANTS IN THE CLASSROOM🟢 Mrs. Vallejo's Reading classes investigated several insect and arachnid specimens. The 4th graders read multiple articles and used the information to compare and contrast them. They enjoyed seeing each specimen up close while learning more about it. Great work, everyone! #TheSAGSway

🟢GIANTS IN THE CLASSROOM🟢 The SAGS Girls on the Run season is well underway. Girls on the Run is a program for 3rd-5th grade girls that is led by Mrs. McDaniel, Mrs. Kirkland, and Mrs. Vallejo. The girls learn about topics like peer pressure, self talk, finding good friends, sharing their emotions, and so much more. The team also does exercises and runs laps at each practice in order to work up to the 5k that they will complete next month. The girls are learning important life lessons and making lasting friendships along the way. Just like their team chant says, "Girls on the Run is so much fun!". #TheSAGSway
